Building a dedicated, caring team
Tenterfield Care welcomes 11 international staff members this year, as we continue to build a dedicated, caring and more permanent workforce.
The skilled workers who fill important nursing, care and support roles hail from Fiji, Nepal, Sri Lanka and India.
Manager, Val, says the international staff are a great addition to the team, adding their own professional expertise and unique perspectives.
“There are positives all round. Having such diversity is great for the team and the residents. It’s wonderful to see them sharing stories, traditions and cultural experiences and learning from each other.”
Care Planner, Libiya, who hails from India, says Tenterfield Care has been incredibly supportive in helping her family settle. “They provided accommodation assistance initially, and they also helped my husband secure a job. These two things have made a big difference in helping us feel more secure and connected to the community,” she says.
“I’m also very grateful for the support of the management team at Tenterfield Care. They place a strong emphasis on ongoing training and education, which helps me continuously improve my skills and provide better care.”
The international team members are recruited via the Government’s Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme and specialist recruitment agencies. Some are supported to make the move with their
families and subsidised housing is provided where possible.
At Tenterfield Care, we are using PALM Scheme to complement our local recruitment efforts. This initiative is helping to reduce our reliance on temporary staff, which enhances consistency of care to residents.
