Resident Heather’s vintage biscuit recipe – a winner!
If you’ve read our blog – Friendly rivalry and a vintage recipe, then you’ll know about our success at the Tenterfield Show. Bakers from both Haddington and Millrace took out prizes for their creations, including resident, Heather, for her biscuits!
She would love to share her recipe with the wider community. It’s over 100 years old and has been handed down through the family, winning many awards at previous shows.

Prizewinning biscuit base recipe
Ingredients:
½ cup butter
½ cup sugar
1 egg
1 ½ cups self-raising flour
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
Method:
- Cream butter & sugar
- Add egg and mix
- Add sifted self-raising flour and vanilla essence
- For variations, add 1 cup of whatever additional ingredient you’d like eg chocolate chips or sultanas
- Roll and shape into biscuits
- Bake at 1800 for 20 minutes
