Residents reflect on Remembrance Day
Tenterfield Care residents took a moment to come together and reflect this Remembrance Day. They joined a moving service conducted by David, from the Tenterfield RSL, supported by local musician, Annie, who played the bagpipes.
Many residents proudly wore handmade crocheted poppies, lovingly made by one of the talented residents and a generous volunteer. Others, like Rodney, wore medals received during their time in the Army or Army Reserves.
As stories and memories were shared, the impact of war on so many was clear. Some spoke of losing a loved one; others of parents, siblings or friends who served, while others recollected their own stories of service.
One resident recalled losing his hearing after a nearby bombing, during his time in the Airforce. Many recalled their childhoods during war time, hearing air raid sirens, taking shelter in school bunkers and the
uncertainty.
It was a day filled with emotion, reflection and gratitude – a touching reminder of the strength, joy and comfort we receive from shared experiences and importantly, companionship.
