Meet Support Services Worker, Barb
Barb has been a much-loved member of the Tenterfield Care team for over 16 years, finding joy in her day-to-day interactions with residents. She has held multiple roles over this time, ranging from laundry assistant to carer, but at the heart of her work ethic is a desire to help the residents feel at home by providing important hands-on care and support.
What do you enjoy about supporting the residents?
I’m in awe of how they constantly find ways to embrace life. They’re so grateful for what I do and show their appreciation with the kindest words, but they have so much to offer too. They make me laugh and they’re so generous about sharing their knowledge.
What is the favourite part of your day?
I love it when the residents are genuinely glad to see me arrive at the community. And when they ask me if I’m here again tomorrow, that just makes my day.
How do you think you’re making a difference?
It’s very important to me that I’m helping create a beautiful home for residents where they feel safe, heard and truly cared for. Sometimes, it’s the little things that can have a big impact. For example, I like to bring flowers in from my garden to brighten up the dining room tables or a favourite marmalade for one of the residents who loves it every morning on toast. I also used to bring my dog in for visits.
For many, we become an extended part of their family. Even working in the kitchen, we pick up on little things that we can help with, like if someone doesn’t have their glasses on or may need a cardigan. Everyone does their little bit to make a positive difference every day.
At Tenterfield Care, residents are at the heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on getting to know and understand individual residents, and supporting them to maintain their interests, routines and connections to the people and places they love. We use innovation to help us deliver personalised, meaningful care.
